Yeah, I couldn't figure out what you were talking about. I'd checked prices(including eCost and Dakmart)before replying to Dan. $700 would be a very good price, assuming it was in good condition and with the upgrades.

Sure, there's a few used ones for about $700 on Amazon.

Well I did end up getting it. Keep in mind I'm in Canada and anything I would have bought from the US I would have had to pay shipping and duties. Actually most places I checked on Amazon for used wouldn't ship to Canada.
The receiver is in excellent condition. I'm not sure how to tell if it has the newer Audessy EQ. What do I need to look for?
I setup my system and ran the Auto EQ. Definitely an improvement in sound compared to my Yammi.

I seem to have run into a problem. I can't seem to get a network connection with the receiver. According to the manual I should be able to check for an update using the GUI under Manual Setup, Option Setup there's a Firmware Update. When I click it I get "connection failed". I've got it plugged into my router. All my other pc's can connect fine.
I can see it has an IP address. Not sure what's wrong? Anyone have any experience with this?

Also tried accessing the receiver via my pc's browser inputting the ip address. I get prompted for an id and password. I don't see anything anywhere about what it could be. Is there a default id and password?

Ok, figured how to get the Firmware Upate to see my network and check for updates. Oh crap, it's actually updating the firmware! I thought it would just tell me if there's an update. Well no movie for me tonight Boy it's slow! Still haven't figured out the id and password for accessing the receiver via my pc browser.

You really should have gotten the info on this from the seller; e.g., how old is the unit, did it come with the Audyssey improvements, if not, was it upgraded, etc. I googled 3808 firmware update and got these instructions . I'm not sure what sort of update that you're getting now, but it may be a minor one. The Audyssey upgrade used to cost $100, with a rebate available for some time, so if your unit doesn't have them I doubt that you're getting them for free. As the instructions show, apparently units made after Sept. 2008 had them. Possibly the remote also had the Dynamic Volume or EQ button on it after that date. Does your remote have such a button? If so, operating it switches the display between Dynamic EQ or Volume on or off. If not, the instructions say to check the firmware version by holding Status and Return down while pushing Power on, then press Status twice. This is supposed to display the version, and apparently 01.95 or later has the improvements. After it's finished with whatever it's doing now(don't stop it)you might try that.

I can't figure out why there's two remotes and which to use for what. THis has got to be the worst remote ever!
On the remote with the LCD I do see something labled Dyn EQ and DYN VOL. These are not hard buttons but on the LCD. When I press it nothing happens though.

Hi Dan,
I'm just speculating since I don't own a Denon, but I think the second remote might be to use in a "second zone" like the bedroom or patio or something. I'm pretty sure you'd need an infra-red repeater in the 2nd zone wired back to the Denon to pick up the signals from the 2nd remote.
I think my H/K AV receiver came with two remotes as well. I've never used the 2nd remote because I don't have a second zone. .

Alan has it right. You get a supplied second zone remote for the second zone, but to use it from the second zone you need to run an IR repeater from the second zone to the 3808. It seemed to me to be a sales gimic.
