Just for fun and to see if there is something wrong with your reciever, try setting your fronts to "large" and listen in pure direct.

If your receiver is working properly, there should be no way you aren't getting the same bass and spl as with the old vintage amp. The 3310 is a nice receiver, lots of power.

Ok I will try that soon. Just got my vintage Marantz stereo tuner delivered and need to check that first. smile

Don't overlook the point I mentioned about checking the polarity of the wiring. If the two speakers were fighting each other because the wiring was reversed at some point, poor bass and imaging would be two of the effects.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

I followed your suggestion and it really seems to myself that the bass is lacking on my Denon. I will be getting a spl meter just to make sure the volume is matching .
As for now I am listening to music only on my vintage amp (2 channel mode, which sounds really good to my ears now). So the Denon is only being used to watch movies.

It seems to be it was everything right where it was supposed to be. Well I am looking for a spl meter to sort things out.

Just to double check, reverse the + and - wires running to one of the speakers when connected to the Denon.

Pioneer PDP-5020FD, Marantz SR6011
Axiom M5HP, VP160HP, QS8
Sony PS4, surround backs

one way, the speakers are in phase; that way, when someone speaks in a movie, the sound will be centered between the left and right speakers.

the other way, if you reverse the connections on one of the speakers, they are now out of phase.
the same person speaking in a movie will have the voice all spread out across the front stage, like the "voice of god" in old movies.
the sound comes from all directions at the same time, so it's not focussed.

good enough?
have a super day. :-)

Well as for me it seems the sound is not good. Although the tweeter from the speaker that has the wire changed seems to give a louder sound. (after covering both of them with my hands, the one that has the wire changed keeps on giving some good sound whilst the other does not).
