I finally got the Canon 7D that I had been considering. Have only done a little noodling around, but so far I'm really impressed. At least with the feature set. I'm upgrading from a 30D, and had a 300D/Digital Rebel before that.

The auto ISO is cool. Grabbed this shot in my poorly lit room. It selected 2000 ISO, I was able to handhold the shot, and the noise isn't bad at all. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Dutc7klqSBWwki2jiUxBoOMOT2c3ERsovI8XsPaiTd8?feat=directlink

Also I accidentally triggered a movie recording, so I ran with it, and just played around for a few seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9QBB0dfNu4

I love my 7D with battery grip. The 5D MkII is the mainstay for it's full-sized sensor, but there's something about the 7D that I just love....

I imagine I'll be full frame in 4 years. That's how long I've stayed with each body.

I sold my 30D to the president of the company where I work, and he sold his 300D to another co-worker. So I was able to pick up the 300, and remember what it felt like. The 30 isn't a bad camera, but, man, the 7D is in another league, and that's just the hand feel.

seeing the new bodies coming out almost makes me want to upgrade from my 5D mk1. However, i don't do enough photography any more to justify the expense of buying a new body.

That's a really good shot of the keyboard Chris. No noticeable pixelation at all from what i could tell. What lens were you using L glass?

Heh, no. I just got a 7D, do you think I can afford L glass? laugh (That is my next goal to upgrade a couple lenses.) It's the good ol' 50 f/1.4. That thing obliterates backgrounds. (I fear for what that f/1.2, L version does.)

Nice. My row of coworkers just went through the latest camera phase in the past 6 mos. 2 of them opted for the 7D. The other 2 of us opted to go w/ the micro 4/3s.

I've used some legacy glass w/ great results on the Olympus EPL1. My buddy lent me a Leica M mount lens and that was OUTSTANDING. W/ the few pix I take, hard to justify a lens that costs more than my kit and several lenses...

I love a shallow depth of field, and shooting with available light. So I don't own anything slower than f/2.8. Because of that, the L series lenses have always been temping. I just felt that a lens that was twice the cost of the body was pushing it. Now that I've got a more expensive body that problem is solved...

Sometimes I think "L" glass is worth it, sometimes I don't. I love my 16-35 L, but the lens I'm using day in and day out (and the sharpest lens I own) is a Sigma 150 F/2.8 Macro. It's a good focal length for portraits with a full-size sensor.

I have the 50 F/1.4 and the 85 F/1.4, and really can't see spending so much more for a F/1.2 version of each.

Yeah, I don't actually plan to get the 50 f/1.2. It's a much larger lens, and adds very little. The sharpest lens I own right now is an EF-S 60 f/2.8 Macro. It also has no noticeable distortion. I use it for portraits too (even if people hate how it captures every little flaw--I'll soften in post if needed). I've heard that some of the other EF-S lenses are pretty great too, but I hate to invest in them too much, as they don't mount on a full frame body.

Yes, very good, Chris.

Charles, we certainly can count on you for a unique viewpoint.

Cool shots, Chris. The third one is my favorite. It resembles a squid.

very nice pics of the fireworks. I feel like the camera I bought was my 2nd best investment, right after the speakers. While not quite in the same league as some of the equipment mentioned above I love be D90 and rarely need anything past my little 35mm f1.8 lens. After my son was born I wanted to be able to take indoor pictures of him without the use of flash. The camera and little lens certainly allowed me to do exactly that.

Just bought a Sony RX10, along with a Manfrotto Magic Arm and Super Clamp (shown in this brief promotional video).

I was going to purchase either the Canon 70d or Nikon D5300 but decided not to because I know I would have great difficulty manually zooming a DSLR seeing as I don't have the use of my hands.

I wasn't keen on getting a fixed lense camera, but I watched and read many reviews on the RX10, and they're all very positive. As an added bonus, I can control the camera (zoom, activate the shutter etc.) from a wireless device like a cell or tablet.

Here's how I'm going to rig it up to my chair -

Hopefully it works out!

That's an awesome looking camera. It's amazing how far the lenses have advanced since my Pentax Spotmatic II was new.

The arm looks ideal, but I can't help thinking that some kind of safety rope for the camera might be a good idea (I don't trust clamps ;)).

I've seen him drive. Forget clamps, it should have come with roll bars!

I just bought the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S to control my camera via the Sony Playmemories app. I can zoom in/out, activate the shutter and look at my pictures via the tablet. It's nice having a 10.5" viewfinder grin. The reviews for this camera spoke highly of the image quality, and they're spot on; the quality is just phenomenal.

Now I just need one of these Tab Grabbers and I should be all set.

Here's my photography setup -

! - I have a Manfrotto articulating arm clamped the my chair via a Manfrotto Super Clamp. This supports my Sony RX10 camera.

2 - The grey piece below the camera is a Bescor MP-101 Motorized Pan & Tilt Head. It allows me to remotely pan an tilt (15 degrees up and down) the camera.

3 - I just purchased the new Samsung 10.5" Tab S which syncs wirelessly to my camera and I use it as the viewfinder. I can also zoom and take the picture right from the tablet!

Well, I had to get a different support for my camera because the Manfrotto tripods couldn't hold up. I also scratched the tablet viewfinder idea because the camera only operates in auto mode (the camera is completely locked out), and I've learnt how to use enhanced functions without the camera; like the histogram. I keep the tablet in my camera bag in case I need to consult a photography ebook I own, or need to look online for information about composing a particular shot etc.

I'll get around to posting a picture of my new setup, but in the meantime, here's some pictures I took yesterday at a local park. It's the first time I've used my circular polarizer and ND filter.
