As I'm wrapping up the home theater, I decided I wanted some good tunes outside as well. I'm ashamed to admit I tried some Polk outdoor speakers (little bit cheaper, more versatile mounting options) only to be horribly dissapointed. Maybe in the past I wouldn't have noticed, but after being spoiled by my Axiom home theater speakers, those just wouldn't do. So I spent a little more (story of my life it seams) I got a pair of the Algonquins. Besides the fact I have no idea how to pronounce the name they sound SO MUCH BETTER than the Polks. I should have known.

I wanted to install them horizontally, but with the angled port, the one on the left would have had the port pointing straight down into the speaker. I didn't like the way it looked to have them both in the same horizontal orientation so I went vertical instead. Small compromise.

A nice plus is that the Spiced Rum color is a near perfect match for my deck.

Beautiful! If it wasn't for the grills, I wouldn't notice them.

BTW, Algonquin in pronounced Al-gone-qwins (like "twins") smile .

Algonquins are First Nation's people whom are Ojibway, I believe.

I just call them "gonks."

Amazing how well the color matches.

I'm envious of the deck and yard, btw.

Gorgeous deck, rprice! The Alqonguin speakers blend in nicely, too.

RP, the Algonquins certainly blend in well with your deck.

Don't know what you meant by "compromise" , but positioning them vertically allows for a bit better horizontal dispersion and therefore a little better acoustic blend as well.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

If I had some Spiced Rum on hand, I'd drink a toast to your installation of the Algonquins. (Pronunciation guide: Al-gone-kwin) A native Indian tribe in Northern Ontario, where Axiom is located. A huge provincial wilderness park--Algonquin Park (no roads, thousands of lakes) borders the Axiom property.

Cheers,
Alan

That does look like a very nice setup.

While we're talking about long words starting with "A", would you call that an Adirondack chair ? Up here we usually call them Muskoka chairs, from the Muskoka region which includes Axiom along with a lot of lakes.

Now, in the "things I should probably keep to myself" department... is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that if you cross "Adirondack" with "Colquhoun" you more-or-less get "Algonquin" ?

Funny, but I think a cross of the two words would come out more like "Alquholack".
