Extremely unimpressed and lets just say, I am no longer a fan.
Yeah, that's pretty lame. I like their music a lot, but they should get over themselves if that's the whole story. I'm just hoping someone was feeling ill in addition to the rain.
Sharon and I spent a wonderful afternoon yesterday listening to the crazy blues guitar pickins of Matt Anderson. It was double awesome because he was playing in the Saint Mary's Church finishing off their Indian River Music Festival.
This famous building has been described as acoustically perfect and it has been said that it is one of the top ten places in the world to perform. Every time I go there, it blows my mind. There is no echo, no big hall reverb, not even any of that that distinctly 'churchy' sound. You just hear the instruments and the voices absolutely perfectly.
The famous (in Atlantic Canada) architect , William Harris, actually built the church in 1902 as a way to accomplish his dream of building a perfect concert hall. One story goes that no one would finance his desire to build a concert hall in that period history but there was, however, lots of money to be found to build beautiful churches for the expanding population.
Hey Axiom... marketing idea... You should do a video about coming to this location to test speakers. I know it's technically a very different thing but but add in a fun comparison of the cold view inside your anechoic chamber, vs. the beautiful, century old building and it's world renowned acoustics. Disguise some tech talk in there during a few clips of artists playing in the church and the speakers being tested and it would make a very cool promo video, for both you and the music festival.
Just a crazy thought I had during intermission.
Now, back to the blues. NOT in the church and not the best sounding recording and doesn't show off his powerful voice as much but it does show off 'Stubbyfinger's' wicked guitat playing.
Saw Matt Anderson at Ottawa Bluefest a few years ago. Talented man. He's on The Vinyl Cafe as the supporting act once and a while. I believe he recently won some prestigious Blues award too.
Matt Anderson is wicked. I don't know if i could do a whole sitting as his extended stumming can get a little long, but the man has pipes and wicked talent no doubt! No screech required!
Hey, when is the next Axiom anniversary in PEI anyway?
