My new house will have a hybrid home theater area/great room. I can hide cabling for all speakers except the left rear surround speaker. That cable will either have to run across the floor by the kitchen which is not acceptable, or be easy enough to connect disconnect from the speaker.

The QS-8 will sit on a four foot stand and I intend to have the wire permanently attached and run down the stand with a loose section a few feet long coiled under an end table. The main run be coiled up under the right rear surround speaker out of site. When I want to listen, I need a way to connect the two pieces together without having to twist wires every time this happens. The wire nuts that are used in wall outlets might work but that is still a fair amount of twisting and connecting. I'd like a connection to be a simple plug and play type.

Any ideas?

There is probably a proper solution. I have seen speaker wire extension cables but the ones I have seen are all a very small gauge. Smaller than I would want to use for my distances.

However, if I were to have to do this today with my spare parts pile... Most banana plug receptacles are removable so they can be added to differnt types of wall plates. In your case, you just don't need the wall plate at all and any plastic clips could be removed if they are there.

Put the recepticles on the speaker's wire and the banana plugs on the other wire. Connect as needed. Ensure you get a banana plug that can be tightened for a secure fit.

Add a little colored shrink wrap to where the wires enter the plugs & receptacles to make it look a bit less hackish.

In-line automotive type wiring connectors work well. Heavy duty plus fool proof - only 1 way that the connectors will fit together.

Initial connections might require soldering but then fuss free after that...
