I have this remote switch to turn my computer on and off, and was wondering if I could modify it so it works via voice with my Amazon Echo. It's probably going to sound silly, but the idea that popped into my head (simply speaking) was getting rid of the control box, and connecting a wall plug to the end of the cord. Then I could simply plug it into a Zwave wall socket that's linked to the Echo.

Thanks

Why do you want to turn your PC on and off, Cam? What's wrong with putting it to sleep?

My computer is right beside me in bed, and not only is it fairly loud having eight large fans in it, my computer really heats my bedroom up. It's also an energy hog.

For the safety of your computer and data, you might want to look into remote controllable UPS or other rigs that will shutdown your computer gracefully.

Thanks for the reply, Eric. I definitely agree that a "soft shutdown" is necessary. I'm pretty sure that the unit shuts down and turns on the the PC properly, so it should do the same if it's possible to mod it and use it like I stated. The Zwave on/off receptacle would act just like the button on the remote.

Hi Cam, I admit I had not actually looked at the product description in its entirety. It looks like it acts as an actual power button. You could then set your computer to sleep instead of shutting down completely when pushing the power button.
