So i'm looking into swapping my dinning room into a media room. This is probably going to happen as the room acoustics are far superior to anything else in the house. Plus the wife has signed off. We were wondering if there was a preferred home theater carpet that did well with acoustics?

Lots of speakers from many
manufactures...mostly Axiom

Hi Rebulx

Any carpet which is not acoustically transparent will do. It will serve to reduce or eliminate floor reflections.

Should help.

Pro tip. Let the wife pick the carpet.

For installed carpet you want a carpet with cut pile and a heavy density. The taller the pile the better. You want foam underlay with a density of 8lb or higher. For rugs, a dense heavy rug covering as much of the front of the room as possible.

Thin, rubber backed carpets are not as good (as found in commercial offices) but wear longer in high traffic areas. Their acoustic absorption coefficients can be found online. I would recommend to go to a flooring store and price several options if getting installed.

Adding a huge rug or carpet to an existing room will drop decay times by 40-60%. The larger the room the better the improvement. Bed bath beyond has a bunch of huge rugs that are attractive, thick, and can be taken with you when you move down the road.

My HT has wood flooring. I bought a Turkish wool rug and it made a world of difference (for the better). I found the rug at Costco one day while wandering around, looking for paper towels or some other bulk item..... Kinda my thing with Costco. Go in for TP, come out with an 8 piece patio furniture set.

Kinda like Axiom. I came to upgrade my sub and ended up having four of each thing they make.
