I have been a big Netflix supporter But then, I had a few movies listed with long waits...I would never get them. I emailed customer support complaining and would always get the same canned answer....even when I replied to the canned answer. Then I read somewhere that they preferred treatment to new members. So I cancelled my membership and started a new one with a different email address and the free trial.
NOW!!! The movies that were listed as long waits are available immediately!! That it is upsetting....but now I know how the game is played!

Thanks for the tip Curtis. Not exactly Axiom/Rocket/HSU/SVS customer service, eh?

I don't get movies from them very often, so I always get the movies I want... Of course, by now I could have purchased the entire catalog...
Basically, they like customers like me. If everyone was like you, (ie, get it, watch it, return it), they'd be out of business. It's a little slimy, but I understand why they do it.

Pardon the response from a new guy, but I have to disagree about Netflix. We rent movies constantly, with family movie on Friday, adult movie on Saturday (not porn, you pervs), and "X-Files" episodes on the weekdays. With the exception of "Lost in Translation" when it first came out, my flicks have always been available, including those just released. I've been a member for well over a year. I'm about ready to upgrade my subscription to 5 at a time. Call me satisfied.

That's really weird, Curtis. I wonder if it is a regional problem. My experience is virtually the same as Tony's. While I'm sure it varies dramatically based on demand for new releases, I rarely have any problems. I even got "Lost in Translation" on about the second day it was released. I'm not new to Netflix, either. Given my challenges with Cable/OTA/Dish in that other thread, I'm thinking of going to 5 a month, too.

Yes...I also never had an issue. I have been using them for almost three years, then the issue with the long waits started happenning. I have 5 or 6 emails complaining. The basic response back was "we try to ship at least one of your top three".
Then I came across this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=393587
So I cancelled and rejoined with a different email account.....and BAM....the same three exact movies listed as long waits were listed as AVAILABLE NOW...and shipped.

Wow. Thank you, Curtis. I'm going to keep on the lookout for that behaviour and respond accordingly. I appreciate you sharing your experience.

I second Tom's response. I like Netflix now, but hate the thought of getting taken advantage of by being a loyal customer. I'll be watching.
