If you have S-video on your TV, you do not have to hook up the cable to the TV at all. Many VCR's actually have better tuners that televisions do. Hook up the cable to your VCR, the RCA left and right out from your VCR to your receiver, and the S-Vid from your VCR to your TV. Keep the TV on "Line In" and all you have to do is turn it on and off. Change the channels on the VCR.
Correct me if I am wrong, but there is no difference between a HI-FI VCR and a Stereo VCR as far as the tuner goes.

That much is true... though my GF prefers the GuidePlus or whatever the channel guide feature on her TV is that's lacking on the VCR (which has text station ID instead).

Hmm... that made more sense in my head than in print...
What I meant was... we use the VCR as a tuner most of the time, but she does miss the guide feature when we do.
