I am wanting to buy a new system.
My friend tells my to buy Axiom, he knows alot more then I do when it comes to stereo so I will listen to him there.

After listening to his M22's with a NAD c350 I decided I need Alot more bass from what I buy. My taste in music would be Kid Rock or something like that.

I want a set of towers, so Im looking at the M50's or M60's. At first I was set on the m60's but I see that the woofer in the 50's is 1/4 inch bigger and also the 50's have no mids. So am I right in thinking this set would give more of an overall base sound? I have read alot of post's on the M60's where people claim they are too bright. (Which is what I thought of the M22's, for me anyway.)
But I like the idea of more speakers in the 60's because I do like my music to have plenty of volume

If this helps the room size is about 400 sq foot.

To power them the Onkyo TX-SR600 is at the top of my list right now because Id like to also watch some Nascar with awsome sound.

Any input would be great, Im pretty much a noob when it comes to this stuff. 2 weeks ago I didnt even know what an interconnect was, but Ive done alot of reading since then!

Simply put, if you can afford it take the 60's. For my money I would go with the 60's they are a better overall speaker. You can find lots of testimonials and praise by searching the archives of postings. I find the 50's while good, sound slightly muffled next the 60's clarity.

I have the 60's with my Yamaha RX-V1300. NASCAR never sounded better. Six channels of 32,250 horsepower...Can you imagine? I'm a noob just like you. I started thinking I wanted the M3's, thought about the 40's, 50's, and wound up buying the 60's. I couldn't be more pleased.

First, there's no 1/4" difference; the bass drivers are the same unit in both. The M60 enclosure is a bit larger and Axiom rates it as having slightly more bass extension. Frankly though, if you want "a lot more bass", I wonder if you might be disappointed. The M60 has very good, but not inflated bass. If you got a separate subwoofer, the bass level could be turned up to a level that wouldn't be accurate, but possibly that's what you're looking for.

As for the brightness point, in my opinion it should be called clarity and accuracy in the mid-range, which doesn't try to cover up for poorly recorded material.

Have a look at the products page, the web site products page for the 50's does say that the M50's have 6.5" drivers and the 60's page shows 6.25". Typo? I am not that familar with the 50's to say right or wrong.

Since you already had a chance to audition the M22's and thought they were too bright, I am wondering why you are considering these speakers in the first place (if they do not suit your tastes). Of course, I don't want to discourage you from buying them as I am a happy owner of the M60's! You may want to listen to your friend's M22's again to determine if it's clarity you hear or shrilly tinny highs...like if they cause you listening fatigue. Although I've not heard the M50's, I'm also wondering if the M50's would be a better choice for you. From what I've gathered from other listeners here is that the M50's seem more laid back in the highs although not quite as detailed.

If you are looking for "kick your teeth in" kind of bass, I think you will be might be disapointed with any of the axiom line without a sub. I don't think you will be able to get a substantial thump out of any driver smaller than 8"-10". I have the M60's and am incredibly happy with them, but they aren't the best speakers for heavy rock (unless you want to hear every guitar note, down to the sound of the fingers sliding down the fret board). The M60s are not lacking in bass and you may be able to get a heavier bass sound by adjusting the settings on your reciever and the speaker placement, but I don't think you could ever get anything like a pair of JBL's with a 12" woofer could do.

Of course a pair of M3's or M22's with a nice 10"/12" sub would give you the best of both worlds and give you the start on a really nice surround sound system - then you would feel like your in with the pit crew

It is not exactly "kick your teeth in" bass Im after, Im sorry I dont know alot of musical terms I guess.

I just know that I played a Kid Rock cd on his system and there we parts of the song that were almost "not present" if you will, as compared to the Bose 301's I have now or even the factory system in my truck!

I've never had the chance to hear a nice stereo with a quality sub before but I guess maybe I should make that effort. I always thought that a sub was for just loud booms and rap music.

If I can put it like this... I'm looking for a nice full sound that is not bright, I dont want the bass to be overwhelming but I do want to know its there.

Is it sounding like maybe M60ti and say EP175?

I want to start by saying I don't own an axiom speaker - yet.

I've decided on an m40 becuase of the type of stuff I listen to - lots of rare stuff not recorded well, and a laid-back speaker lends itself well to this kind of recording - the M40 is probably the most laid-back speaker axiom makes, except maybe the m50. If you want the most forgiving bass-heavy speaker axiom makes, I think it's the m50. A lot of people have disparaged this speaker, but a lot of people here seem to be in the jazz/classical crowd.

I think the m50 is probably the best speaker axiom makes for your listening style as a stand-alone speaker. I personally don't like subs for music, because I think they sound "weird." I'm probably in a serious minority, but I think 2 channel is the only thing that is "correct" for music.

I should add that I am very old-fashioned and low-tech when it comes to audio. You could probably do very well with m3's and a sub, but I wouldn't recommend going overboard with an m60 based on what you said you like. Also, I think sub's sound weird with 2 channel audio - but lots of other people seem to like it. I still listen to vinyl, so who knows?:)

Again, I don't own any axiom stuff - yet. But I am a very meticulous shopper, being a drop-dead poor 70's punk relic, but I think my recommendations are sound based on what you want and like.

in short - if you plan on buying a sub anyway, buy m3's and save your $$$ on a sub - otherise, buy the M50's for a good 2-channel stand alone.

please, though - correct me if i'm wrong anyone.
