Hey folks, I'm having a problem with my sub humming quite loudly when I have my TV connected to the reciever.

The connection path is as follows:

Coax RCA from sub to reciever.
S-video from reciever to TV.
Cable Coax from TV to wall.

I've tried a nicely shielded cable for the connection to the sub with no improvement.

I can eliminate this Humm by disconnecting the S-Video cable from the TV to the reciever or by disconnecting the Coax cable from the outlet to the TV. So I'm pretty sure its coming to the reciever via the cable outlet.

I know all the cables are shielded other than perhaps the S-video cable.

It's not to big a problem as I don't have the sub on when I watch TV and I can disconnect the TV when watching a DVD or listening to a CD but for convience sake I would rather not have to go through this everytime I use the sub.

I'm really not sure what to do now...

Any help would be very much appreciated.

try a cheater plug on the sub

I would call the cable co. and have them check their ground outside.It should share the same ground as your whole house ground.

cheater plug? Sorry I'm unfamiliar with such a thing.

Would it be possible to some how ground out the cable to the TV if it is a grounding problem?

Your cable should be grouned outside of your house and to the same ground stake as your whole house ground.The grounding problem ussually happens when there is two seperate points of ground.

You could also try this

cheater plug bypass the ground prong to reduce or eliminate hum.

OK so I found an old extension cord that has no ground or force polarity on the prongs and used that to connect the sub. Voila it works! No HUM!

So Wid, would this mean I definitely have two different grounding points?

Is it OK ( ie: safe for the sub ) to use a cheater plug?

Jag: You can also try a line conditioner if all else fails.

I would say you should get the ground of your cable checked.The bad thing about floating the ground is if a person were to touch the amp it's possible the ground can go through you,thats not a good thing.Shocked at best.
