OK, I admit it, I'm a sci fi freak. First movie I remember seeing was The Thing - 1951 or 1952, in Calcutta, India. I loved airplanes - my family and I flew in Boeing Stratocruisers, Lockheed Constellations (most beautiful airliner ever made), DC-4s, DC-3s. I remember seeing a Comet taxiing next to our DC-4 and was awestruck by its beauty and by the sense of things to come.
I'll never forget the scene in The Thing when the Air Force personnel (and the reporter) arranged themselves and stood in the outline of the craft burried in the ice - and when they formed a perfect circle - knocked my little socks off. I knew airplanes weren't round - oh, the mystery of it all.
All this to say, Sci Fi and I go back a long way.
Anyway, I've seen the new Battlestar Galactica miniseries and the first episode, and I think this is the best sci fi I've ever seen.
Go Sci Fi Channel!!!

Beware, 2x6, the Cylons are among us, and I suspect they're financing their activities by selling exotic cables and speaker wire.

OK....when is the series on?
Recently, when the movie was on, I had people over, so couldn't watch it. However, I would flip over to it every once and a while to get a glimpse of the Cylons....no luck. How did they look/sound? As a kid, I was fixated on them and how cool they were.....both them and their ships.

I loved the original series and wondered about getting it on DVD. Anyone have it and can give a thumbs up or thumbs down to the quality?
I missed what was on last Saturday night. I thought it was a movie; are you saying it's a series and I missed the first episode?

Go to scifi.com and check the schedule. I think that the miniseries from a year or so is back on and then episode #33 (not sure what happened to 1-32 unless those were the original series episodes from when I was a kid) which is the first in the new series is on Sunday I think. Something like that. I am out of town, but set up my Dish PVR to record it, and all new episodes. Seems like about the only shows I watch anymore are Stargate SG-1, Atlantis (although it has many technical flaws, but I am giving them a chance) and now Galactica. I hope it will be good.

IMHO, no comparison between the original series and the new one. Although I loved Lorne Green and his Ben Cartright meets the Lords of Cobol, the new series is incredibly sophisticated, moody, and has no 6 year old with his robot dog as a main character.
Farscape? I like Farscape, but I'd rate Stargate SG-1 above Farscape in my personal list of favorites. This new Battlestar series is just incredible.
Not only is the new Battlestar the best TV sci-fi series, I think it ranks up there above the great sci-fi movies of all time.

Yeah, my HD Tivo is filled w/ old and new Battlestar now. Bummed that Universal HD didn't show the full length moview though. Although, the HD transfer didn't look all that great.
Funny anecdote. Buddy and I were talking about this show a few months ago. Then he whipped out the name of the robot dog. Holy crap, how'd he remember that?
Sad that there's not enough sci fi either. Enterprise restarted and I had high hopes. It feels like it's gone way past jumping the shark...

Stargate SG-1 is my favorite. It's like the original Star trek in that the acting isn't that great and the special effects don't knock your socks off, but the stories are great. I have also warmed up to Atlantis. Makes for nice Friday night viewing.
I just read something interesting that apparently has some legs. SG-1 will be coming back for a 9th season. RDA , if he comes back at all, will have a limited role on the show. Making him a General and putting him in charge was a mistake IMO. Anyhow, they will be introducing the main guy in Farscape as a new cast member and put him in charge of SG-1. The plan is to not ignore the Farscape thing, but to invent a way to have him "return" and set up the whole Farscape experience to emanate from and be part of getting it's start with the Stargate. Sounds interesting.

I miss the General Hammond character - he exuded a kind of Texas decency and grace which certainly dignified the role. Jack O'Neill is a great character - they should have left him a Colonel in the field.
