First post here, so a little background. I'm in the process of building a dedicated HT, roughly 17'W x 23'L x 9'H. The HT was professionally designed and was built and is being treated to the designer's specifications, so acoustically I believe my room is on pretty stable ground. (HT pics here)

I've been researching various speakers for a 7.1 setup in this room. I will have dual SVS 20-39CS+ subs so I think I'm covered on the low end regardless of which speakers I choose. Here's what I'm contemplating:

Front: M60ti
Center: VP150
Side/Rear Surrounds: QS8

Originally I thought I could get away with M22ti's up front, (thus saving a few hundred $$$) but after reading it seems that in a room of my size (+/- 3500 cu.ft.) the M60s will do a better job "filling" the space.

Anyone with any comments or suggestions please feel free...

WOW, Chip! That's gonna be such a great theater. I think you are correct in going with the M60s in a room that size. IMHO all your selections are dead right on.

Regardless of your final choice in speakers, please stick around and let us share in the fun. I would venture to say that most of us dream of having a dedicated theater like that, and most of us will probably never have one. So, watching one go up and get running is a great pleasure. At least to me it is.

Ugh, that just makes me sick with jealousy. It's people like you who contribute to and extend the life of the terrible disease of upgradeitis.

BTW, the M60's would be great in there but M80's would be even sweeter.

You could certainly put some M80s in a room of that size.I would suspect the M60s would do the job fairly well though.I think your room is absolutly outstanding, I'm not jealous at all, well maybe a little .

Fantastic theater, now if I had that......

I would also suggest considering the M80's, I'm using five for, fronts, center, and rears, and QS8's for surround. For me they are the way to go for a good sized listening area as you have. Goold luck on a decision and keep up updated on the theater progress please.

Chip, ya gotta watch out for these M80 owners. They'll try to talk you into anything!

Seriously, either speaker would probably work for you, I suspect. But, the smart thing to do would be to call Axiom and talk to them about it. Tharkun (Dennis) will confirm that their customer service is second to none, and they will NOT try to talk you into anything you don't need. Their goal is a satisfied customer, not a quick sale. They are most qualified to advise you about what will, or will not, work in your room.

If, based on your floor plan, I understand you intentions correctly, be sure to let them know that you intend placing the speakers behind a false wall. That may, or may not, make a difference in their recommendation.

No argument, the M80s would work fine for you in that room. But, based on your first post, it would seem budget is a factor. I'd hate to see you spend the money for the M80s, if the M60s would suffice. Unless, of course, you WANT the M80s. "Because I want it" is a valid reason for purchasing anything!

The call to Axiom would be well worth the money.

Thanks guys, for both the compliments and suggestions. Unless there's a compelling reason otherwise I'll probably stick with the M60s as I'm pretty sure they'll get the job done for me.

Budget is ALWAYS an issue as I'm sure most of you can imagine. I've sunk so much money into the project at this point that anywhere I can save a few bucks by not going "over the top" is a plus. At the same time I don't want to short-change myself, hence my posting here for opinions. I'm by no means an audiophile looking for that elusive 10% improvement that would set me back another 50% of the cost. I'm more interested in good quality, bang-for-the-buck equipment that will make me happy, and these Axioms seem to fit the bill.

Who knows...six months from now I may be here asking what you all think the improvement will be when I go from the M60s to the M80s!

I'll be hanging around here often and will certainly let you know when there's been some progress on the HT.

Stay tuned...

If "bang for the buck" is your goal, you've come to the right place. It's an apt description of Axioms. Enjoy!

Just a quick follow up to let everyone know I just placed my order for a pair of M60s, a VP150 and four QS8s! Woo hoo!

Thanks again for the comments and suggestions. (and sorry to those M80 owners I've probably disappointed!)

Also ordered my projector today (Panasonic AE700) and will be ordering a pair of SVS 20-39CS+ subs either today or tomorrow.

Now I've just got to get back to working on the room because it's going to be hard looking at all those unopened boxes. Hope to have some more progress pictures up later this week or this weekend.

Stay tuned...
