Hello,

I am debating on getting 4 m60s and 1 vp150. I would have to get a sub from svs. Probably the PB12-ISD.

Or, would you get 2 m60s, 1 vp150, 2 qs8s and 1 EP500?

The final cost would be about the same for me. I listen to music and movies about 50 50.

Thanks for any input you might have.

Mike

Just my personal opinion, but I prefer surround speakers for surround channels. Some use direct radiating, but they will not envelope you in sound as well. The Qs8's will also do a fine job for music.

Hi mikei

I have a good friend who has the EP500. I have an SVS 20-39, no experience with their PB12-ISD. As between the EP500 and the SVS 20-39, I'd go with the EP500 in a heartbeat. It is an incredible subwoofer. I'd go with the QS8s instead of a second pair of M60s. The surround material in movies just doesn't justify another set of towers. The QS8s are superb surround speakers. Just my 2 cents. G'Luck!!

For 100% music (well, 90% music) I would choose M60s (or M22s etc..) as surrounds but for 50/50 I would go with QS8s. You don't lose very much on music and you gain a lot on movies.

The only reason I'd even consider going with 4 towers is if a very significant portion of your overall listening is to discrete multi-channel audio (SACD/DVDA). Even then, using some sophisticated bass management (like an Outlaw ICBM) would negate much of the advantage. The QS8's are just super, and are going to be easier to place for good movie surround. QS8's and EP500 in a heartbeat.

Just going to agree with what everyone else here has already said...go with this

M60ti mains
VP150 center
QS8 surrounds
EP500 sub

You won't be disapointed.

I'll stay away from the sub issue, 50/50 listining - Qs-8s no question. I feel they are the overall best surround I know. From a 100% music only stand point, the 4 60s would make sense. The Qs-8s are not a total slouch with music - But magic with movies. You will not regret the purchase of any number of Qs-8s, If you really want to focus on "discrete" SACD music listening, You would simply enjoy the Qs-8s in a 7.1 mode down the road as I do.

WoW I can't believe everyone has agreed with me on the Qs8's, that's a first, ha ha

Actually, I forgot to mention if Mike was primarily considering Music as the norm, then I would also say another set up floorstanding/M22's would be nice.

I'm learning, yippy
