A good thing is that ecost is an authorized Denon reseller.

Darren, I've purchased 3 refurbed units from eCOST, including two Denon's. I had a self inflicted problem with one of the Denon's and since it was still under warranty, I dealt directly with Denon, and not eCOST. Other than the repair taking longer than I would've liked (they were waiting for a part), I had no problems.
Your risk of getting a refurbed lemon is no greater, and perhaps less, than getting a new lemon, because the product has been recently examined and any problems addressed and resolved.
If you intend to order by phone, just be sure to specify that you want the least expensive shipping option (ground shipping). If you don't, they send it 2 day express which can be expensive relative to ground service.

I could be totaly wrong. But i think that people in canada were having problems with getting warranty support direct through denon when purchased on the web or through ecost. not sure though but it sounds familiar.
