ok, i was looking at the hk refubs, and the 8000z is on for $898 us... i was wondering does this still have the fantastic bass management, and component upconversion that the new units have? if it does..then this is a definate purchase...if not, then ill go with the 435, and get a couple outlaw monoblocks in the future...

Upconversion is not mentioned in the literature but I am not completely familiar with this unit.

It looks like a refurbed 635 has up-conversion.

You might look at Denon. 2105/2805/3805. All have upconversion. A refurbed 2105 on Ubid and Outlaw Monos might do the trick.

There is an old saying that goes something like this: "If it is too good to be true, then, it is too good to be true."

Buyer Beware!

I haven't heard of any Denon doa's from refurbed buyers.

Regarding optical cable; see this link Digital

You might not need the 2805.

The 8000 is/was a great unit.

It does not have upconversion, or the latest DPLIIx. Nonetheless, it is a solid unit.

A good thing is that ecost is an authorized Denon reseller.

Darren, I've purchased 3 refurbed units from eCOST, including two Denon's. I had a self inflicted problem with one of the Denon's and since it was still under warranty, I dealt directly with Denon, and not eCOST. Other than the repair taking longer than I would've liked (they were waiting for a part), I had no problems.

Your risk of getting a refurbed lemon is no greater, and perhaps less, than getting a new lemon, because the product has been recently examined and any problems addressed and resolved.

If you intend to order by phone, just be sure to specify that you want the least expensive shipping option (ground shipping). If you don't, they send it 2 day express which can be expensive relative to ground service.

I could be totaly wrong. But i think that people in canada were having problems with getting warranty support direct through denon when purchased on the web or through ecost. not sure though but it sounds familiar.
