Hello all.

I finally got around to setting up my downstairs neighbor. She bought a 5.1 system, including 4 M2is, a VP100, a pair of the full metal 24" stands and an Athena sub. She also went with a 43" DLP and a Yamaha 5860. Total cost, soup to nuts, $3650. Not bad, in my opinion.

She received her speakers yesterday, and I spent a couple of hours running cables and hooking stuff up for her. We were rolling by aroudn 10:30 last night - just early enough to put on some 'splosions....

She lives in a pretty model styled apartment, and the lay-out is nearly identical to my own (I posted pics before when I moved in, you may recall). I showed her the custom speakers that Saturn put together, and stole a page from his book. We went with Boston Cherry speakers, but ordered white grill covers. She's got a built-in book shelf/entertainment unit, etc. It's done in all white dry wall, so the whtie grills help to make the speakers a little less obtrusive, and also (I think) is a class, modern and contemporary option.

I post some pictures when I have a chance.

We weren't really able to do any critical listening, but my first impressions were that the M2s were a decent little speaker. Once a subwoofer was added, the soudn field was very enveloping on the movie we demoed (Austin Powers 3 opening scene in DTS). It will be a little tricky to reign in the sub on her system - I think the Athena P4000 might be a little too much sub compared to the M2s. Anyway, the clarity of sound was great, and they seemed to pack plenty of power for such small units. We played the volume at a very reasonable -20 db on her 105 watt/ch amp, and it was plenty loud.

Anyway - I was excited to help her set up her system and bring her into the fold. She's loving it!

Like I said - pictures to follow...

Sounds like you set her up with a real nice system and good choices.

Oddly enough I thought M2s with an SVS 20-39PC+ (525 W, bigger than 4 M2s and the receiver and the center channel and all the shipping boxes combined) made a mighty fine combination.

Is there any chance the sub placement is giving you a room peak and "booming" at a particular frequency ? I find normally "too much sub" usually turns out to be "too much sub at one frequency". Pull it out into the middle of the room for a test and see if that helps...

... or if you can dig up the room dimensions we can probably figure out some good places for the sub to level out the frequency response.

Looking forward to the pics, sounds like the colours will be pretty sharp.
