Hi axiom dudes!

I've been looking around all over the internet for good speaker brands, and something draws me here. I don't know if it's just rumored bang/buck of the axioms or what, but when I feel a good deal, I go with it \:\)

Anyway, I have a fairly medium sized bedroom (18x12x10) that I want to dress up as a home theater, you know, for the times when you just can't get out of bed! But eventually, I might want to upgrade to m80's because they just seem so dang amazing.

So currently, I was thinking between:

Onkyo 875 or Denon 3808
Axiom speakers:
m22 x2
vp150 x1 (overkill?)
qs8 x2 (these seem nice!)
Subwoofer:
SVS SB12 (it's smaller and I love SVS for subwoofers for the same reason I love axiom for speakers \:\)

What do you guys think of this setup for this sized room? Is the Onkyo 875 better at handling the low ohms of the axiom, in case I get m80's later on to upgrade? I've heard that the Onkyo handles better at low ohms than the Dennon on this board:

See post by Dinoyo. On the flipside, I've seen the denon is said to handle the axiom speakers magically here. Anyone try both of these receivers?

What do you guys think, is my setup going to be ok? Should I consider some other components? I just don't want to spend a few grand on speakers, set everything up, and be disappointed with the sound!

Thanks in advance!

You will love that setup. The biggest knock against Onkyo is they run hot and the 4 ohm load makes them run even hotter, other than that, choose which ever one you want based on features. I love My 3808 for its networking ability and I stream flac files from my music server directly to it and it plays flawlessly. The network ability also means any updates are simply done by going into the GUI and selecting check for update. You can get the 3808 from 6ave.com for about $1100. I have a hard time believing anyone actually hearing a difference if the systems were matched for output and not using any of the DSPs available which is usually the case when blind test are done.

I have a SVS PB12-NSD and it shakes the ground outside the house when I have the system cranked up a bit. You should like the SB-12 as it is said to be nearly the same, just lacks a little of the low end oomph the PB12 has.

GT, welcome. The speakers that you list would be excellent in your size listening room. The only suggestion I'll make is that if you have the room to place it that you consider a third vertical M22 or possibly an M2 for the center, for wider and smoother horizontal dispersion most similar to the M22 mains.

As to the receiver, the major difference between the 875 and 3808 is probably the superior Reon video processor which the 875 has to upscale regular DVDs and standard def TV. If this wouldn't be a major consideration, the 3808 has a couple of other features which might give it a slight edge. Comparable deals are available on both.

The handling of possible M80s in the future shouldn't be a concern for either of the excellent units that you're considering. Both have substantial power into 4 ohms and neither should realistically be considered as being able to "handle" Axioms better than the other. Enthusiastic owner reports should be taken with a grain of salt.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

The denon 3808 will do much better than the onkyo from what I have read. You can get the denon 3808 from 6ave.com for $1098 shipped. I have the 3808 and the m80's and it drives them easily. Many others on the board have the 3808/m80 combo and love it as well.

The networking features for internet radio and music streaming plus the GUI make the denon the clear winner IMO

If you happen to use DirecTV, make sure you Google the forums here to look at a number of problems reported with audio drop outs on the Onkyo. The DrecTV HD boxes have a slight flaw in their digital audio output that causes the Onkyo to drop out for ~3-10 seconds every time you hit pause, play, switch channels, etc. This was reported as being fixed a few weeks ago but now DirecTV users are again reporting the same problems are back. \:\(

For me, this was the #1 one reason I went with Denon over the Onkyo. (then terzaghi and jakewash and others gave me a half-dozen more, but this was definitely the main one).
