I didn't want to steal the other LCD TV advice thread, but I am in a similar situation. I have been half looking at smaller TV's for the bedroom. I'm thinking either a 32 or 37 inch. Most likely LCD, since I want to be able to hang it on the wall. My problem is I am looking for a good name brand for around $500. I don't think this exists yet. We don't want that much TV in the bedroom, so a little 14 inch tube has the duties currently. I thought about moving my 25" upstairs when I got the 50" SXRD downstairs, but didn't have a good spot to put the 25". We are also thinking of moving, so I might just wait to see where we end up and how the new bedroom layout looks to see what makes the most sense.

Is it same to assume you can turn an LCD off and on as much as you want since there is no bulb you have to worry about replacing? With my SXRD I am supposed to leave it off for at least 30 minutes before turning it on again.

Not quite, Jason, but close; for example, the Syntax Olevia 532H, which tested very well, is available around $600.

Sure, you can turn a flat-panel LCD back on as soon as necessary, but the rear-projectors with a high-intensity bulb don't have that half-hour wait necessarily. Starting those bulbs back up uses a surge of power that causes more wear on them than quite a period of continuous operation; it's been said that it's better to leave them on unless they'll be off at least a half-hour(some say an hour). So far as starting them back up, as soon as the fan cools the bulb down(2 minutes?), it can be done if necessary.

John,

The Olevia is a great looking set but there is a catch that may not be obvious...May or may not impact decisions about this set but the info needs to be available.

The Olevia sets DO NOT come with an included remote control for the TV...They are purchased separately...

Just a point of note.

Found this out when looking at them for my bedroom TV...

The 1/2 hour wait is the same with mine. I could turn it on again after a couple of minutes, but am better off leaving it on unless it will be off for at least 30. I've heard 60 as well.

Steve, I wonder if you spoke with a salesman who wasn't well-informed. The specs include a remote.
