I had this problem last year, trying to ship a mitre saw to my father on the west coast. I'm not sure why they put restrictions of 66lbs but they should definitely have contacted either yourself or Axiom instead of sending it back. Some of the bus companies (like Greyhound) will ship heavier items I believe.
