I have the Z2, it will sense the incoming signal and adjust for anything between 480i upto 1080i. My Panasonic DVD player has a better scaler so I don't use the Z2's scaler. There is an option in the menu to turn it on/off. When using Component cables the highest signal you can send the Z2 is 480P, which look fabulous. If you have a scaler like DVDO, HTPC, or an upconverting DVD player, you can send a 720p or 1080i signal via DVI or a HDMI/DVI cable and enjoy an improved picture. HD signals via an HD Tuner look jaw dropping. Below are some DVD's sent via a 25ft Component cable at 480P. First is Napoleon Dynamite which is a 1.85 aspect ratio movie, and second is Star Wars II which is a 2.35 Cinemascope movie. Both are shown on my 2.35 10ft wide DIY screen.
