Your still getting the full 500 watts from the amp either way, but yes, you could bump down the sub volume a little, and most likely the receiver will move closer to 0dB's. I think my Denon 2805 has my 500 at around -3dB and the sub knob is somewhere around 7 o'clock.

Do you have the speaker setup menu setting all speakers to Small, and a crossover of 80hz, then run the setup?
