Seems to me like you tried to help him in the first place. I think he's beyond "help" at this point; I doubt you could find a solution that fits his criteria.

How about one of those Yamaha sound projectors? I know they typically perform best in rectangular spaces, but if you could test-drive one, that would be a legitimate way to get hi-fi without all the wiring.
