We REALLY liked Salzberg. I didn't make it to Berchtesgaden, but it is not far and might be worth a stop.
Also reasonably close to Munich is
Herrenchiemsee (one of Ludwig's palaces like Neuschwanstein. This one - on which he squandered pretty much the entire treasury - is patterned after Versailles and sits on an island in the middle of a lake). Spectacular and recommended.
You should go to Dachau. It's kind of tough medicine, but it is too powerful to miss.
We got AFL lost driving around Munich.
