Well, I've got both types of screens-1920x1200 on a Thinkpad T61 (florescent backlight), and a 1440x900 on a Macbook Pro (matte, LED backlight). The MBP screen is far superior in terms of everything but the obvious--resolution. The text isn't too bad on the Thinkpad, esp once I bumped up the DPI in Windows, but I still find myself squinting a bit. I haven't tried HD on either of them that I remember, though.
