Hi, 7.1 is 2 main speakers, 1 center speaker, 2 surround speakers, 2 back speakers and 1 sub. The 7.2 is everything as above plus an extra sub. From my understanding you link the subs together. Someone else maybe able to explain a lot better. Also I don't think there are many movies etc that take full advantage of 7.1 yet.
From what I have read here the Denon receivers will run the M80's.
As for the question about the QS8's, they are designed to be used as surrounds and would give you a better sound field. The M22's would be directional. The QS8's are very good, I had a set of Yamaha bookshelf speakers as my surrounds and then bought the QS8's, the difference was amazing.
I am sure other who have a lot more experience will chime in and explain things in more detail.
