In theory, a refurbished unit might be more reliable in the long term because the manufacturer has changed parts suppliers and replaced some troublesome part with a more reliable item.

Manufacturers sometimes find that when a unit is out in the field with owners, certain problems show up after time. A refurbished unit would have those problems corrected with new parts substitutions.
