Given that you only want to drive two speakers, I would buy a second hand receiver for now. So many people are selling their older receivers to upgrade to the new bluray formats, that quality slightly used receivers can be had for cheap.

You will not be able to notice any difference in sound quality between a 2 channel and surround receiver.
