Ironically, the inwall m22's have quite a bit more internal cabinet volume - and I've heard that they do sound better, probabaly as a result of this volume.

It is ironic, because you'd think that the w22's that I have, with ability to be in wall AND on wall would have taken more advantage of this space - but the portion that goes in the wall is really pretty small (maybe it's just for the electronics?)

It's really too bad that it gives you the standing wave benefit of being removed from wall surface, but than takes a big hit(for no apparent reason) with a cabinet volume that is quite a bit less than the in-walls.

Obviously, neither of the in/on wall versions come close to the volume of the real bookshelf. Trying to imaging what more the m22 inwall would give me, I calculated out all the volumes awhile back).

My goal in hoping for an in-cabinet design is to recreate most of the M22 bookshelve's acclaim in my room.
