I will say that any and all legends that tell of M80's being 'bright' are simply unfounded.
I find them bright and I don't find that unfounded at all given the number of instantaneous A/B tests i've done with other brands.
And for most who actually do find M80's to be too 'bright' or detailed to their ear, the M60's have usually been the go-to speaker. They are the 'laid-back' version of the M80's.
Have you ever heard both in an instantaneous A/B setup and SPL matched and adjusted for the difference in ear-tweeter height given the difference in the two speakers' vertical footprint?
If not, you have little understanding of how close the M60 and M80 are in sound, aside from bass extension.
