Well Dale, you are describing the exact situation I had a few weeks back. I of course wanted floor standers, but, my kids and their healthy curiosity for ports and woofers oppose that. I like the idea of the M22 but to wall mount it would seem unsightly (its just too big) so the wife opposed that.
I went with the M2 (with the Axiom full metal bracket -- ask them to drill the holes for the bracket unless you like doing that stuff), VP150 and QS8. My current room is a great room, cathedral ceiling opening into the kitchen/dining room. I think I calculated 4000+ cubic feet of space. So, a big center and the big surrounds were a must. I went with the big STF3 HSU sub to support the M2's. I'm loving it.
My future upgrade path will be to get into a dedicated room, kids get a little older, then get 6.1 or 7.1 and the M2's will get some type of surround duty and then I'd get floor standers. (or, as was mentioned, take advantage of the upgrade "refund" Axiom offers).
