Come to think of it, historically speaking, wasn't Texas part of Mexico at one time or another? "Remember the Alamo"(and Davy Crockett).
No, Texas was an independent nation from 1830-40 (or 40-49--can't reacall) And they've threatened to cecede as recently as last year. Love for 'em to do it, 'cause it would realize their biggest fear----they WOULD be overrun by Mexico and its people.
But, I think if you were to ask, lots of us have a state we loathe way more than Texas.
Quebec is more like the "little Italy" or Chinatown section of a US city that just got waaaaay outta control. Weren't any of your forefathers paying attention?
