Jason, your latest reply didn't describe what you did or found, but if the sub isn't getting enough voltage to turn on reliably that doesn't necessarily require louder volumes. The sub output level on the receiver should be set higher(to feed the sub amp more voltage) and the level control on the sub correspondingly lower to keep the overall sub level about the same.
