Everything John has said regarding the sound of amps makes perfect sense to me.
It makes sense to me too but one must factor in the differences in output stages, dac's and a dozen other factors before we can come to the conclusion that everything sounds the same.
Look I'm not trying to start anything with JohnK. His posts are some of the most informative of anybody here, but to make a blanket statement that solid state this and that all sound the same is in my mind, wrong. I have heard the difference and I know it's there.
