Hi,
i have another question on crossover setting and i need your suggestion. Here is the spec:
M60 : 37-22k
vp100: 95-22k
M3 : 20-22k
STF-2 : 25hz
Denon 3805 : Adjustable High and Low Pass Crossover 40/60/80/100/120/150/200/250

After running auto setup , i manually set FL/FR/C/SL/SR=SMALL since auto setup sets FL/FR and SL/SR=Large. I also set x-over to 100Hz.

Watching movie with this setup is awesome, but not good with music since there is too much bass and it does not blend well with main speakers. So, I set x-over to 80hz and it works quite well as long as i tune the volume on the sub down to 10 o'clock ( i set 12 o'clock when doing auto setup).

Question:
1> Based on the speakers setting above, if I set x-over=80hz, vp-100 seems to have a gap. Does it matter? or should i just set x-over=100Hz and tune the volume down on the sub a bit to reduce localization. In all, i just want to make the Sub blends well with main speaker so that I can hear tight and clean bass without localization.

2> Does anyone know the roll off frequency of M60? I don't have SPL , so i can't tell.

3> what setting do you suggest?

Thanks a bunch

I run my crossover at 80hz, 100hz will be too directional and make the sub more noticeable.

My Set-up:
Denon 3805
M60s
VP150
QS8s
SVS PB2-isd

I don't really notice any gap in the frequency spectrum witht the center channel. Ar you sure you have your sub calibrated well? I use the receiver test tones for approximate levelling then use specific frequency tones to fine tune that last little bit.

Sub location may also play a part.

Al1en,
The only thing i have for setup now is Denon mic. So , I use auto setup/room eq go calibrate the system. After running setup ( i set sub volume level at 12 o'clock), the channel level of the sub is +2.5db

I also think 80hz is pleasing , but i'm concerned about the gap in the Center speaker since this one has 95-22. I don't have much experience on this.

How do you use spl to test the sub? any steps? I'll probably get one from radioshack to make sure that auto setup is correct. I heard lots of people say that denon mic with auto setup is pretty accurate.

thanks.

Get yourself a Radio Shack SPL meter and calibrate all speaker levels to 75dB. Try turning off any auto EQ crap the Denon has too.

To get 75dB with the Denon 3805 test tones at the auto 0dB level I have a 4.5dB boost on the mains. Set your sub at -6dB and calibrate it to about 73 dB using the Rat Shack meter (since there is an error at lower frequencies) and the gain on the sub.

This should give you an idea as to the frequency rolloff of the M60s. Check out the green - full main line.

I played with the crossover settings and calibration with my 3803 and M60s. By the time I was all done, I set the crossover at 80.

AF, your settings are probably the best for your setup. Don't worry about a "gap" involving the VP100; there isn't one of any significance. The 80Hz crossover doesn't suddenly cut off above that point, but rolls off the sub gradually enough so that the overall blend is satisfactory. If the sub is set too "hot" for your taste(unusual since the majority want their subs set too loud)simply reduce the sub a dB or two at the control on the receiver or the sub itself.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

I'll have to agree with everyone else here, I'd set it at 80hz.
