Yes Paul, as Peter pointed out, you have to set the 3805 for the left and right back speakers and then they should be detected, regardless of their quality. I'd think that this would be of more advantage to you than the bi-amping technique described in the Audioholics review, which contrary to the statement there certainly doesn't double the power; it merely results in a separate amp driving the woofers and the mid/highs at the same maximum power, which may be of little benefit.
