The AV10 can be had for a bit over over 6k at the moment … less if you go refurb (which is what I did on my 8805).
Powering the front 3 with a separate amp and using the AVR for the surrounds is a smart move …

Playing with lighting … trying to figure out how I want to light the theater for three scenarios…
  • lights low when people are walking in.
  • Lighting when the movie is running
  • Fully lit … for cleaning/working on HT

So I’m testing out some led strips and laser effects.

In the picture above I’ve laid out some RGB strips along one side of the HT to simulate the look if mounted under the base board. As you can see the screen reflects this light … that’s true even just the back of the room is lit at its lowest dimness. With my own LED drivers I can do better (then the cheap commercial driver being used in the picture). But to achieve exactly what I’m looking for (enable people to exit or come back into the room while a the movie is running) I’m experimenting with addressable RGB strips. Hopefully this will allow me to turn on just enough LEDs on the strip in optimal locations to exit safely without effecting the screen. Below is one thought on giving the HT some interest (it’s a $20 laser thing I pick up off Amazon)

I just use the retina-burning LEDs adorning all the Axiom amps and DSPs as ambient lighting.

I currently have the active’s DSPs & Amps facing each other.

This has a couple positives …
  • Blue light not facing you (otherwise I’d have to cover it)
  • Connectors are facing the speaker
  • The rear’s of the units are easy to access
  • Don’t care about accessing the front switch since the preamp triggers the amps
  • Having them centered under the screen works well with the current sub placement

Cool but just so you know, amps shouldn't be stacked on DSPs due to potential EMI.

Since you have easy access to the rocker switches, you'll extend the life of the amps and DSPs if you shut them down while saving some energy bucks.

Don’t seem to have any EMI issues with them stacked. The amps and DSPs have dedicated power lines (right and left) back to the panel and are turned on/off from there. Don’t worry … Everything get switched off.

"Don’t seem to have any EMI issues with them stacked."

How can you know? The radiated E field may be narrowing the soundstage width and the H field may be shallowing the soundstage depth.

See you’ve been using the DSP as a pillow again … I’ll take my chances … smile

I've stacked mine orthogonally.

FYI on the prepro front … Amirm just came out with his review of the AV10. He gave it a thumbs up: Marantz AV10 ASR review. Interesting talk in the user comments on Dirac ART and if and when it will be available for the AV10. Seems currently only Storm Audio claims it’s working on thier product … Marantz claims it’s coming …
