More than likely what you read and heard about and what received the most publicity was the eventual elimination of analog(component out) HD connections from Blu-Ray players which is, to a limited extent, already starting to happen. I have also seen the introduction, although not released yet, the elimination of "component out" connections of certain models of AVR/Pre-Pros. On these models, you still have component "in" BUT only HDMI "out". The whole concept has been all over the place since although this whole HDCP issue has been never brought to court, the manufacturers are trying to deal with any potential litigation down the road from the "HDMI police".

Of course and as usual, the lawyers make tons of money and the consumer(who pays the freight) suffers.
