I really don't see the review you listed as bad...I see it as honest. I have a brand new VP150 and I think it is outstanding! I have owned 2 previous centers and this one is by far the best. As previously stated, you "may possibly" want to adjust your treble level on your reciever to -1, or maybe even -2 to take off the edge if waranted in your environment. As for bass output...it has plenty!
