Correct on the Squeezebox always requiring access to a PC for your music Library. It can access internet radio and other online music services without a PC running, but to access an MP3 or FLAC library it must use a server app running on a PC somewhere.

For me, this is not an issue as I never turn my main PC off anyways. I use it for too many various things.
