Since I have worked through music history "backwards", hearing modern stuff first, I can hear the Beatles' influence in many of my favorite bands now.
And maybe that's why some don't see them as special. Compared to their peers, they were way ahead of their time.
Take a look at their sheet music. Lots of complicated chord progressions. They incorporated jazz and a number of other styles into their music.
As for other groups, its a matter of taste I guess. Some of the stuff the Dead did was really good, some wasn't.
Dylan could sing (Lay Lady Lay), but chose not to. That was his 'sound'. He is one of the most amazing lyricists ever.
I never much cared for Ozzy or AC/DC. Go figure...
