There's been some good suggestions, but hasn't it occurred to anyone that there's no "obvious" choices?

There's no Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin or Who among American rock bands? I thought the Black Crowes were gonna have a shot at it, but they fizzled....

I still have to go with Aerosmith or Green Day for longevity, relatively consistant performance, and overall popularity.
