Doc, keep in mind that when zone coverage is used backing up the blitz, it isn't the old style of zone where the defenders simply drop to assigned areas. A match-up zone with man coverage on receivers entering the zone and pattern reading can give close coverage on underneath patterns. Blitzology site . Of course, nothing can work all the time, otherwise NFL games would be a lot lower scoring.
In tonight's game the Steeler blitzing wasn't for the most part effective enough to stop Rogers, which won for the Packers. The Packer offensive line generally picked up very well.
