Nick, as someone who recently relocated from California to Virginia (3 years ago is recent, right?) -- and it was completely voluntary -- I can tell you that it wasn't easy on the family, but as the primary breadwinner, I had to take the future into account. I saw greener pastures elsewhere and I'm happy to say the decision was the right one. I learned a lot professionally in the three years since the move, and I just got a promotion so I have at least two more years of good learning ahead of me.

Home is where your family is. Living away from extended family can bring your core family closer together. It's hard work, for sure, and you'll probably second guess your choice often. I know we did.
