I've got a 3 inch hole in the wall, that I've run some PCV pipe through that I want to repair before painting the wall. I'm not going through all the trouble to make the hole bigger and add wood, etc, etc. Someone suggested just using one of those mesh thingi-ma-bobs. I was thinking about making a plug out of drywall that fits tight, push it a little further in than the surface, then fill with spackling and sanding smooth.

Any thoughts here?

The next hole and pipe behind the TV is going to be bigger and in a different spot. Hard to thread several cables in the last one I did.

Well here's a thought. I could just leave it there. It might be handy for a future service hole for running some cable. It'll be behind the TV. The other end is in a closet at floor level.
