Thanks for the Samsung mention. I haven't really looked at them much. One thing I've noticed, is the 8000 has optical audio out and the 7000 doesn't. I'm currently using optical audio from the TV. I'm not sure how the 7000 gets sound to the receiver.

The 7000 is 15mil and the 8000 is 25mil dynamic range.

Not sure if there are any other visual differences and if the 25mil vs 15mil makes any difference. Reviews on both say in high contrast modes, that you loose shadow detail.

It also looks like for the 2012 models, the smallest screen size they'll have here is the 59 inch models.
