I would say, at this point there is a significant difference in quality between the random stuff you can download, and a Blu-ray. In the future, when movies are primarily distributed electronically. Akin to the strait to itunes music, then the quality difference between the "random download" and the pay download will diminish, if not move towards zero. However, there were several studies done with regards to napster. The results of these studies was that a significant amount of people would "download" a song, and the download would lead to them buying the album.. This may not be the same with a movie though, as movies are not as portable as songs. I.E. ipod while jogging ect....

I think it will be interesting to see where things go in the future.
