I wouldn't personally own a gun, but I'd hate to take the option away from others. How about if we were all required to serve in the military, giving us all adequate training with them as well as basic self-defense so a gun would be a less likely first resort? While I'm not sure how the next world war will manifest itself, and whether guns in the hands of civilians will make a difference, I think we can all agree it's only a matter of time before one happens, and I do think there's plenty of potential for a truly oppressive government. Again, I'm not convinced guns in the hands of civilians by itself is going to make the difference, but it's also hard for me to see a lack of familiarity as proper preparation. But I'm just rambling. I've never given it serious consideration, because as I've said, I'm in no rush to own one.
