So what i thought might happen, has started to happen.
The component video out on the satellite receiver has gone glitchy, fuzzy screen. I checked the cables and AVR and TV with other sources and cables and all is well. It is definitely an issue with the PVR.
Now the PVR has a HDMI out, but the AVR and TV don't have any HDMI at all.

Thinking about this, i'm going to either have to get a new PVR, or test the HDMI out on the PVR to be sure the output issue is solely with the component video board, and if it is ok, i'll have to get a new AVR that has HDMI in (easy enough) but also component video out in the hopes that i can plug the PVR HDMI into the new AVR but have the component video out to the old TV.

It's all i can think of doing until we're ready to pop for a new tv too and even then, i might still need a new PVR.

Ageing electronics, starting to die off...snowball is now rolling...
